DAY SIX, SITT'N ON STICKS

Baby Birds Can't Wait to Play

By the time I got up at 7:15am Mary had the brooder open and was already playing with baby chickens. Their little peeps cut through the morning air in a gentle and peaceful way. Meanwhile, baby chicks love sitting on "Tree" the broken limb fragments I gave them yesterday.

What magic will they experience today? Nobody knows but it will be fun. A third piece of "Tree" got introduced to birdy world and they love it. They did not take to it right away, it took a couple of hours but bad little Rake'n, as usual, was first to get up on the new fragment.

Todays photoshoot got replaced by impromptu bonding time. Mark carefully picked up every little bird individually, held him for 2-5 minutes gently petting and speaking birdy with each one. It was outrageous but fun, their softness is so exquisite. The little bird that protested most did not want to leave Marks hand after his petting, he sat there as if to say "I'm special", it was Skunk.

It was Lemmon who started the whole petting thing, he was sitting there looking so soft and irresistible. In actuality he is softer than he appears. While his fluff appears impressive it pales compared to feeling that fluff in person.

All this bonding was inspired by videos from "The Crazy Chicken Lady". We watched her showing us how to hold and pet chickens, then Mark had to try out his newfound skills. Baby birds love it!
